As a volunteer driver for meal deliveries, you play a crucial role in ensuring that clients receive their meals promptly and safely.
Below are the guidelines and expectations for your volunteer service. Please review them carefuly before submitting your driver application.
Schedule and Pick-Up
Operating Days: Deliveries are made Monday through Friday, excluding national holidays and days when the Kokomo School Corporation is closed due to severe weather conditions. In case of severe weather, please listen to local radio stations and news outlets such as WISH-TV and WTHR for updates on school closures. Or call director.
Pick-up Location: Meals are to be picked up at Ascension Hospital Trinity Center at 11 AM daily. 1903 W Sycamore entrance facing Berkley Road
Transportation and Equipment
Meal Coolers: A hot and cold cooler will be provided for meal transportation. Must be returned daily.
Personal Coolers: You may use your own coolers if they are clean, sanitary, and in good condition.
Route and Delivery Instructions
Daily Route Sheet: Ensure to read the daily route sheet for any changes or special notes.
Delivery Protocol: Deliver each meal to the client. If the client does not answer the door immediately, please be patient.
If Client is Not Home: Leave the meal at the front door and attempt to call the client using the phone number on the route sheet. If there is no response, contact the director using the phone number provided on the route sheet.
Interaction with Clients
Client Engagement: We encourage you to visit and get to know the clients. However, be mindful and respectful of the time, as other clients on the route are waiting for their meals.
Emergency Procedures
Medical Emergencies: In the event of a medical emergency, immediately call 911 and then notify the director.
Payment Collection (Fridays Only)
Weekly Payments: Friday volunteers are responsible for collecting weekly payments from clients.
Receipts and Money Bags: You will be provided with client receipts for scheduled payments and a money bag containing 13 one-dollar bills and two dollars in quarters. Return the money bags after deliveries.
Route Duration
Delivery Time: Routes typically take between 30 minutes to 1 hour and consist of no more than 10 deliveries.
